Bergheil!

Grossglockner high alpine road

A ride to the Grossglockner – the highest mountain in Austria (3.798 m above sea level) – along the "Kaiser Franz Josef Höhe", is always quite an experience!

The "Grossglockner Hochalpenstrasse" (High Alpine Road) connects the provinces of Salzburg and Carinthia, above the Hohe Tauern, from north to south. This road leads you from Zell am See in Salzburg, over the Alps, to Heiligenblut in Carinthia. No wonder it is called the dream road of the Alps.

The end of the "Grossglockner Hochalpenstrasse" and excursion destination No. 2 (according to the statistics) in the whole of Austria is the "Kaiser Franz Josef Höhe". An impressive scene of glaciers and mountain summits, rare plants and animals, unfolds before visitors’ eyes.

On the Kaiser Franz Josef Höhe you can visit our restaurants - Panoramarestaurant or Kaiser Franz Josef Haus - high above the Pasterze, the longest glacier in the eastern Alps at 2 418 m above sea level with a unique view from our terrace to the Grossglockner peak. Try our homemade apple strudel with vanilla sauce or our bacon and ham from the local farmers of Heiligenblut. Take a picture with the Emperor Kaiser Franz and his pet - the capricorn (figures).
